Councillor
Frances Dixon
Fran Dixon has been
the councillor for Preston Ward for 11 years. During that time, she has
worked tirelessly on behalf of the people living in the area. She has
helped many people with individual problems and has made many friends.
Fran has worked with the Preston Community Project from its inception
and is co-chair of the Preston Advisory Committee. Fran recently organised
a petition to try to save the Post Office in Marbles Way.
Fran is particularly concerned that young children should have the best
start to life. She is a founder member of the local Home Start Scheme,
which works to support families with young children.
She has been involved in the local Sure Start scheme, based at Merland
Rise School. Sure Start, an initiative of the Labour Government, was set
up to make life better for children, parents and communities. Fran is
also Chair of the Banstead Association for Community Support a
small charity that helps needy families in this part of the Borough.
Before its closure, she worked closely with the Phoenix Youth Club and
was chair of its Management Committee.
In the Town Hall, Fran has served on the Health, Recreation and Planning
Committees. At present, she is one of a group of Councillors looking at
whether the Council is making best use of its Parks and Open Spaces.
Fran says: "I applaud the local people who are trying to help themselves.
I will continue to give them every support.. Much has been done, but there
is a lot more to do."
