Letter to Surrey Mirror
from
Robert Hull, Labour's prospective parliamentary candidate for theReigate Constituency

14th December 2009

Dear Editor,

Last Wednesday, Crispin Blunt MP had to be rebuked by the Speaker of the House of Commons (Tory MP John Bercow) for heckling and attempting to shout down the Chancellor of the Exchequer.

In the words of the Speaker: "I must say, Mr. Blunt, that this constant heckling is not impressive to the people of this country. It conveys a very bad impression of the House. Stop it."

This is not the first time this year that Mr Blunt has had to be censured for his behaviour following the sorry affair of claiming his family home as a second home to be paid for by the taxpayer then selling his house in Horley and claiming back the stamp duty on the bigger one he bought nearby.

The people of Reigate Constituency are entitled to expect better behaviour from their elected representative.

As Labour's Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Reigate Constituency I will subscribe to the highest standards of integrity, transparency, behaviour, accountability and financial economy.

If I have the honour of being elected to serve this constituency in the House of Commons, I promise to behave in a way that will bring credit to the people I serve.

Best Regards

Robert Hull

Pledges from Robert Hull
Labour's prospective parliamentary candidate to the voters of Reigate Constituency

My pledges to the voters of Reigate Constituency:

The expenses scandal brings suspicion on all those who seek to represent their political parties. It is not good enough to make a claim for public money just because you can. Fortunately, there are MP's who still uphold the standards of behaviour that we have the right to expect in this matter.

Regardless of what reforms are adopted for the system of Parliamentary Allowances, I promise that if I have the honour of being elected to the House of Commons, I will put the following pledges into action:

• As a parliamentary candidate I will subscribe to the highest standards of integrity, transparency, accountability and financial economy;

* I seek elected office not for personal gain but to serve the people of Reigate Constituency and our democracy, which I consider an honour and a privilege;

* I will publish my expenses on line within a month of submitting them and publicise them annually in full to constituents;

* I will hold regular meetings with my community and will regularly report back to my constituency party;

* I will apply the principle of best value to all decisions I make which involve the use of public money to cover my duties, including for travel and accommodation.
